Utter Faithfulness

Utter: complete; absolute

Faithfulness: the quality of being loyal, constant and steadfast

Maybe those words don't seem like anything special...but when you know the context in which I read those words...you just might see them in a whole new light.

"Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything."      Titus 2:9-10

These words were written to servants in regards to how they were to live before their masters. In what might be considered one of the most humanly "unfair" or "difficult" jobs, to be owned by another, we see God's high calling. It's the life of complete steadfastness no matter what the situation. Why were they called to this? That they might adorn (make beautiful) the Gospel.

"Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord's work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."  1 Corinthians 15:58

Our lives looks nothing like that of a slave but we too are called to live a life of utter faithfulness. We too are called to adorn the Gospel of our great God and Savior...wherever He has placed us.

Why?

"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people"  Titus 2:11

People need to see, people need to hear, people need to know...and when we demonstrate utter faithfulness, complete steadfastness to His Word and His way, we magnify the name of Jesus and adorn His glorious Gospel for the watching world.

Utter faithfulness...not just then but, by His grace, now and always!
