Sweet Sixteen for our Beautiful Faith!

Faith loves words: reading words, talking words, writing words, playing "Words with Friends", using new words. So, I thought it fitting to write about this special day using a word...hers! :)

Funny: If you know Faith at all...then you have laughed! You have laughed over her wit, you have laughed over her funny faces, you have laughed over her quick comebacks...and you have laughed over the way she mispronounces words...just like "Megamind". Seriously, Faith...keep 'em coming! ;)

Approachable: If you have spent any time with Faith...then you know she is approachable. She loves to have a good conversation and she loves to genuinely show her care for others by welcoming them into her world, or plopping herself into theirs. She cares...and you know it!

Inquisitive: We have learned that questions are not just something that young children ask a lot of...big kids do, too...and Faith is at the top of that list. ;) Over the last couple of years, she has asked  so many random Bible questions, that we have grown very used to starting our conversations with, "Did you pull out the commentary first?!" :) Because she is thoughtful, her questions often stem from her desire to know and meet the needs of those around her and to better understand the world God has placed her in, so she might best glorify Him. Keep the questions coming, dear girl...I know there will be a day when I will miss them, and you, so very much!

Thankful: The Lord opened Faith's eyes to her sin, showed her the need to be saved from her sin and from God's wrath, and saved her!! One of the fruits of her new life in Christ is her thankful heart..and what a blessing it is to see and hear. She is quick to choose thanksgiving instead of grumbling. "That's okay" will often be the words you hear when you would think frustration and irritation would be the natural response. She knows what it means to be forgiven, and it has grown into a thankful heart that is also quick to forgive. Your example has humbled my own heart, Faith...I want to be more like you in this way!

Helpful: I opened up my laundry cabinet to find everything neat and in order (which it was NOT just a couple of days before)...Faith had been at work. I heard a shout of frustration at the top of our stairs just an hour later...only to realize one of our boys had dropped the fish tank he was cleaning...water was everywhere and the fish was flopping on the carpet. By the time I got to the top of the stairs, Faith was already there scooping up the fish, helping to get the bowl filled back up with water while quietly encouraging her frustrated brother. That is just a glimpse of her helpfulness...a glimpse into who she is when no one is "looking"! She also makes the best salsa in all of Chilliwack! And, since we cook Mexican food a lot at our house, I am thankful for her willingness to whip it up whenever I ask! One day, your recipe is going to be a side job, for sure. :)

Faith, today we celebrate you...and we do so with big smiles. The same smiles we've had on our faces from the very beginning...since the day God gave us you! We love you and we rejoice in the goodness of the Lord...both in giving you physical life...but, far greater, spiritual life in Him. What a JOY to call you not only our daughter...but SISTER in Christ!

Happy 16th Birthday dear girl!

After having just spent a week with our wonderful grandaughter, I thought your description of Faith was spot on! She also beats me regularly at Words with Friends, which is humbling to me and a testimony to her literary skills! Happy Birthday, Faith ... Love Papa!
